Nomenclatural History	The subspecies Corynebacterium diphtheriae diphtheriae was originally described by Tagini et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 185 in 2019. In 2018, Tagini et al. reduced Corynebacterium diphtheriae (Kruse 1886) Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 to the rank of subspecies.
