The genus Aliarcobacter was originally proposed by Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 191 in 2020. On et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Arcobacter Vandamme et al. 1991 emend. Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018
in 2021.
Frontiers in Microbiology changed the spelling of this genus from Aliiarcobacter to Aliarcobacter after publication.
