The species Mediterraneibacter faecis was originally described by Togo et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 185 in 2019. Togo et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the species
Ruminococcus faecis Kim et al. 2011
into the genus Mediterraneibacter Togo et al. 2019.
