The genus Halarcobacter was originally proposed by Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 185 in 2019. Upon validation, this name was corrected from (sic) to . On et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Vandamme et al. 1991 emend. Pérez-Cataluña et al. 2018 in 2021.
