Nomenclatural History
The species Halococcus litoralis was originally described by Schoop 1935. Schoop formed this name in 1935 by placing the species Poulsen 1880 into the genus Schoop 1935 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Oren et al. 2009.

This name was not included on the Approved Lists because the species description conflicts with the description of the genus.
