Proper Form
| Phytomonas Bergey et al. 1923 |
Nomenclatural History
|
The genus Phytomonas was originally proposed by Bergey et al. 1923. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum rejicienda by Judicial Opinion 14 in 1954. Dowson replaced this illegitimate name with
Xanthomonas (Bergey et al. 1923) Dowson 1939 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Vauterin et al. 1995
in 1939.
The name Phytomonas Bergey et al. 1923 is illegitimate as it is a later homonym of Phytomonas Donovan 1909, a genus of flagellates.
