The genus Thermobacterium was originally proposed by Orla-Jensen 1919. Breed established Thermobacterium as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Lactobacillus Beijerinck 1901 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Zheng et al. 2020
in 1953.
