The species Desulfovibrio halophilus was originally described by Caumette et al. 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 37 in 1991. In 2019, Galushko and Kuever established as the basonym of (Caumette et al. 1991) Waite et al. 2020 .
