The species Apilactobacillus kosoi was originally described and validly published by Zheng et al. 2020. Zheng et al. formed this name in 2020 by placing the species Chiou et al. 2018 into the genus Zheng et al. 2020. Liu and Gu established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (McFrederick et al. 2018) Zheng et al. 2020 in 2020.
