The species Epilithonimonas zeae was originally described and validly published by Nicholson et al. 2020. Nicholson et al. formed this name in 2020 by placing the species
Chryseobacterium zeae Kämpfer et al. 2014 emend. García-López et al. 2019
into the genus Chryseobacterium Vandamme et al. 1994 emend. Heidler von Heilborn et al. 2022.
