The species Pontixanthobacter confluentis was originally described and validly published by Xu et al. 2020. Xu et al. formed this name in 2020 by placing the species Park et al. 2016 into the genus Xu et al. 2020 emend. Liu et al. 2021. In 2021, Liu et al. established as the basonym of (Park et al. 2016) Liu et al. 2021 . In 2021, Oren and Garrity established as the basonym of (Park et al. 2016) Liu et al. 2021 .
