The species Alteromonas iocasae was originally described by Gago et al. 2021. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 202 in 2021. Gago et al. formed this name in 2021 by placing the species
Salinimonas iocasae Zhang et al. 2020
into the genus Alteromonas Baumann et al. 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Barbeyron et al. 2019.
