The species Maridesulfovibrio salinus was originally described by Galushko and Kuever 2015. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 202 in 2021. Galushko and Kuever formed this name in 2021 by placing the species Ben Ali Gam et al. 2018 into the genus Waite et al. 2020.
