The species Streptomyces puniceus was originally described by Patelski 1951. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Rong and Huang established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces floridae Bartz et al. 1951 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2010. Rong and Huang established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces californicus (Waksman and Curtis 1916) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2010.
