The subspecies Streptomyces rutgersensis rutgersensis was originally described by Waksman and Henrici 1948. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1954, Cercós reduced
Streptomyces rutgersensis (Waksman and Curtis 1916) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980)
to the rank of subspecies.
