The species Streptomyces thermonitrificans was originally described by Desai and Dhala 1967. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Kim et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Henssen 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1999.
