This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1996, Iinuma et al. reduced Streptosporangium amethystogenes Nonomura and Ohara 1960 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 to the rank of subspecies.
