The family Glycomycetaceae was originally proposed by 1997. This name was validly published by Stackebrandt et al. 1997. Labeda and Kroppenstedt published an emended description of this family in 2005. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Zhi et al. in 2009 and Nikou et al. in 2015.
