Nomenclatural History
|
The species Bifidobacterium suis was originally described by Matteuzzi et al. 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Sakata et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Bifidobacterium longum Reuter 1963 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2002. In 2008, Mattarelli et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Bifidobacterium longum suis (Matteuzzi et al. 1971) Mattarelli et al. 2008 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
