The genus Falcivibrio was originally proposed by Hammann et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. Hoyles et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Spiegel and Roberts 1984 emend. Hoyles et al. 2004 in 2004.
