This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 54 in 1995. The species Isosphaera pallida was originally described by Woronichin 1927. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1987 the name was revived by Giovannoni et al..
