Nomenclatural History
The family Spirochaetaceae was originally proposed by Swellengrebel 1907. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Abt et al. published an emended description of this family in 2012. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Gupta et al. in 2013 and Hördt et al. in 2020.
