Nomenclatural History
The genus Spirochaeta was originally proposed by Ehrenberg 1835. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Canale-Parola published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Pikuta et al. in 2009, Miyazaki et al. in 2014 and Shivani et al. in 2015.
