Nomenclatural History
The species Brachyspira innocens was originally described by Ochiai et al. 1997. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 64 in 1998. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Ochiai et al. formed this name in 1997 by placing the species (Kinyon and Harris 1979) Stanton 1992 into the genus Hovind-Hougen et al. 1983.
