The species Weeksella zoohelcum was originally described by Holmes et al. 1986. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 23 in 1987. In 1994, Vandamme et al. established Weeksella zoohelcum as the basonym of
Bergeyella zoohelcum (Holmes et al. 1987) Vandamme et al. 1994 emend. Hahnke et al. 2016
