The species Bacillus velezensis was originally described and validly published by Ruiz-García et al. 2005. Dunlap et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Bacillus oryzicola Dunlap et al. 2016
in 2016. Dunlap et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Bacillus methylotrophicus Madhaiyan et al. 2010
in 2016. Dunlap et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens plantarum Borriss et al. 2011
in 2016.
Dunlap et al. 2016 suggests that Bacillus velezensis is not a later heterotypic synonym of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
