The genus Actinopycnidium was originally proposed by Krasil'nikov 1962. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of this genus into
Streptomyces Waksman and Henrici 1943 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Idris et al. 2017
in 1986.
