Nomenclatural History	The species Kitasatoa kauaiensis was originally described by Matsumae et al. 1968. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Goodfellow et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Kitasatoa purpurea Matsumae et al. 1968 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1986.
