Nomenclatural History
The species Aquaspirillum bengal was originally described by Kumar et al. 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Boivin et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Müller 1786) Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Boivin et al. 1985 in 1985. In 2005, Pot and Gillis reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Kumar et al. 1974) Pot and Gillis 2005 .
