The genus Haloincola was originally proposed by Zhilina et al. 1992. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 42 in 1992. Rainey et al. transferred the members of this genus into corrig. Zeikus et al. 1984 emend. Rainey et al. 1995 in 1995.
