The species Elizabethkingia meningoseptica was originally described and validly published by Kim et al. 2005. Nicholson et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Kim et al. formed this name in 2005 by placing the species
Chryseobacterium meningosepticum (King 1959) Vandamme et al. 1994
into the genus Elizabethkingia Kim et al. 2005 emend. Nicholson et al. 2018.
