Nomenclatural History
The species Planomicrobium alkanoclasticum was originally described and validly published by Dai et al. 2005. Dai et al. formed this name in 2005 by placing the species Engelhardt et al. 2001 into the genus Yoon et al. 2001.

Gupta and Patel 2019 effectively reverse the placement of this species into Planomicrobium by Dai et al. 2005.
