This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 103 in 2005. The species Gluconobacter albidus was originally described by Kondo and Ameyama 1958. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2004 the name was revived by Yukphan et al..
