The species Sphingobium indicum was originally described and validly published by Pal et al. 2005. Feng et al. published an emended description of this species in 2019. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Hördt et al. in 2020. Feng et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium lucknowense Garg et al. 2012 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 2019. Feng et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium chinhatense Dadhwal et al. 2009 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 2019. Feng et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium francense Pal et al. 2005
in 2019. Feng et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Sphingobium japonicum Pal et al. 2005
in 2019.
