The species Lactobacillus harbinensis was originally described by Miyamoto et al. 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 107 in 2006. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus harbinensis as the basonym of
Schleiferilactobacillus harbinensis (Miyamoto et al. 2006) Zheng et al. 2020
