The species Aquimarina brevivitae was originally described and validly published by Nedashkovskaya et al. 2006. Nedashkovskaya et al. formed this name in 2006 by placing the species Yoon et al. 2006 into the genus Nedashkovskaya et al. 2005 emend. Lee et al. 2017.
