Nomenclatural History
The genus Epilithonimonas was originally proposed and validly published by O'Sullivan et al. 2006. Nicholson et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2020. Hahnke et al. transferred the members of this genus into Vandamme et al. 1994 emend. Heidler von Heilborn et al. 2022 in 2016.

Hahnke et al. 2016 transferred the species of this genus into Chryseobacterium but did not formally assert a unification. Nicholson et al. 2020 later emended this genus and created a new species, Epilithonimonas vandammei, creating a competing taxonomic opinion, either of which may be adopted.
