Spring et al. 1996 asserts that strains LMG 8142 and LMG 8413 were originally assigned to Leptothrix discophora and transferred LMG 8142 and LMG 8143 to Leptrothrix cholodnii based on taxonomic studies of strains of non-validly described species.
