Boden et al. 2017 transferred all child taxa of Sulfuricellaceae Watanabe et al. 2015 into Gallionellaceae Henrici and Johnson 1935 (Approved Lists 1980) via an emendation, effectively resulting in a unification of the taxa. Kojima et al. 2021 effectively reversed this unification.
