Nomenclatural History
The family Spirosomaceae was originally proposed by Larkin and Borrall 1978. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. García-López et al. published an emended description of this family in 2019. Garrity and Holt transferred the members of García-López et al. 2020 into this family in 2001.

García-López et al. 2019 effectively reverse the unification of this genus into Cytophagaceae.
