Nomenclatural History
The genus Thiocystis was originally proposed by Winogradsky 1888. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Pfennig and Trüper published an emended description of this genus in 1974. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Imhoff et al. in 1998.
