The species Ensifer sojae was originally described and validly published by Li et al. 2011. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2022, Kuzmanović et al. established Ensifer sojae as the basonym of
Sinorhizobium sojae (Li et al. 2011) Kuzmanović et al. 2022
