Nomenclatural History
The genus Beggiatoa was originally proposed by Trevisan 1842. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 13 in 1954. Leadbetter published an emended description of this genus in 1974.
