Nomenclatural History
The species Cephaloticoccus primus was originally described by Lin et al. 2016. This name was validly published by Lin et al. 2017. García-López et al. published an emended description of this species in 2019.

This name was not designated as the type species of Cephaloticoccus in the original publication. An erratum asserts Cephaloticoccus primus as the type species.
