Nomenclatural History
The species Didymococcus colitermitum was originally described by Wertz et al. 2017. Tegtmeier et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. This name replaces the illegitimate name Wertz et al. 2012 . Wertz et al. replaced this illegitimate name with (Wertz et al. 2017) Wertz et al. 2018 in 2018.

This species name is illegitimate because the generic epithet is a later homonym of Didymococcus Blume under the Botanical Code.
