The subspecies Klebsiella variicola variicola was originally described by Rodrigues et al. 2019. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 189 in 2019. In 2019, Rodrigues et al. reduced Rosenblueth et al. 2004 to the rank of subspecies.
