The species Flavobacterium multivorum was originally described and validly published by Holmes et al. 1981. In 1983, Yabuuchi et al. established Flavobacterium multivorum as the basonym of
Sphingobacterium multivorum (Holmes et al. 1981) Yabuuchi et al. 1983 emend. Hahnke et al. 2016
