Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Cytophaga aurantiaca was originally described by Winogradsky 1929. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Reichenbach. Hahnke et al. published an emended description of this species in 2016.
