The species Clostridium bartlettii was originally described by Song et al. 2004. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 99 in 2004. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium bartlettii as the basonym of
Peptoclostridium bartlettii (Song et al. 2004) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2014, Gerritsen et al. established Clostridium bartlettii as the basonym of
Intestinibacter bartlettii (Song et al. 2004) Gerritsen et al. 2014
