The genus Goodfellowia was originally proposed and validly published by Labeda and Kroppenstedt 2006. Labeda et al. replaced this illegitimate name with (Labeda and Kroppenstedt 2006) Labeda et al. 2008 in 2008.

This name is illegitimate because it is a junior homonym to the name Goodfellowia Hartert, 1903.
